Drawing on the hard work and success stories of the CCSP’s network of 53 member institutions from coast to coast, this report highlights national sustainable procurement trends, showcases CCSP member accomplishments, and features success stories from across Canada throughout 2024.
Procurement teams managed inflation and sustainability amid increasingly complex supply chains, challenged by market instability and price fluctuations. New regulations, such as the Modern Slavery Act and the Building Ontario Businesses Initiative Act, demanded additional focus on compliance. While emerging technologies offer solutions, high costs and integration barriers slowed adoption. Despite these challenges, procurement teams demonstrated resilience, highlighting their vital role in advancing sustainability within their organizations amid a demanding landscape.

2024 Trends in Sustainable Procurement – We’ve highlighted ten key trends shaping sustainable purchasing this year. These include growing attention on improving methods for measuring supplier diversity programs, rising ambitions to embed sustainability in the built industry and service category, a stronger focus on compliance and reporting, and continued momentum in Indigenous procurement and supplier engagement.
Member Benchmarking and Program Developments – Wondering how our members become sustainable procurement champions? We conducted benchmarking interviews to support members in assessing their progress in implementing the Best Practice Program Framework.
